Sangria Punch: A Refreshing Batch Cocktail for Any Occasion

Tue, Jun 11, 24  |  scotch cocktails

While Sangria is traditionally a wine-based punch from Spain, you can certainly create a boozy punch using scotch! Here's a recipe for a Scotch Sangria Punch that incorporates the smoky and malty notes of scotch with the refreshing flavors of fruit and citrus:

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle (750ml) blended scotch whisky
  • 1 cup brandy (optional, for an extra depth of flavor)
  • 1 cup orange liqueur (such as Cointreau)
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup lime juice
  • 1 cup simple syrup (or to taste)
  • 2 cups sliced fruit (a combination of oranges, lemons, limes, apples, and pears works well)
  • 1 cup berries (raspberries, blueberries, or blackberries)
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1 bottle (750ml) sparkling water or club soda, chilled

Instructions:

  1. In a large pitcher, combine the scotch, brandy (if using), orange liqueur, orange juice, lemon juice, lime juice, and simple syrup. Stir well to dissolve the sugar.
  2. Add the sliced fruit, berries, cinnamon sticks, and cloves.
  3. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or ideally overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  4. Just before serving, stir in the chilled sparkling water or club soda.
  5. Garnish with additional fruit slices and berries, if desired.

Tips:

  • For a sweeter punch, add more simple syrup to taste.
  • If you prefer a more tart punch, reduce the amount of simple syrup or add a splash more citrus juice.
  • Feel free to experiment with different fruits and spices. Stone fruits like peaches or plums would also be delicious additions.
  • For a fun presentation, serve the punch in a large punch bowl with a ladle.

This recipe creates a refreshing and flavorful punch that's perfect for parties, barbecues, or any summer gathering. The scotch adds a unique twist to the classic Sangria formula, sure to be enjoyed by those who appreciate a smoky and sophisticated drink.
