Painkiller Cocktail Recipe

Fri, May 31, 24  |  rum cocktails

The Painkiller is a tropical rum cocktail perfect for summer or anytime you want a taste of the British Virgin Islands, where it was invented.  While its name might be a bit misleading (it definitely won't erase a headache!), it's a delicious and refreshing drink with a blend of rum, pineapple, orange, and coconut flavors.

Here's what you'll need:

  • 2 ounces Dark Rum (preferably Pusser's Rum, but any dark rum will work)
  • 4 ounces Pineapple Juice
  • 1 ounce Orange Juice (freshly squeezed is best)
  • 1 ounce Cream of Coconut
  • Freshly grated nutmeg for garnish
  • Pineapple wedge for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Add the rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, and cream of coconut to the shaker.
  3. Shake well for about 15 seconds.
  4. Strain into a chilled hurricane glass or highball glass filled with fresh ice.
  5. Grate fresh nutmeg over the top of the drink.
  6. Add a pineapple wedge for garnish (optional).

Tips:

  • If you don't have cream of coconut, you can substitute with coconut milk or even heavy cream with a splash of coconut syrup.
  • The amount of rum can be adjusted to your preference. Start with 2 ounces and add more if you prefer a stronger drink.
  • Be sure to use freshly squeezed orange juice for the best flavor.
  • For a fun presentation, serve the Painkiller in a hollowed-out pineapple!
